Photo Story: Altruism in time of crisis

A basket of home sewn masks made by Darcie Nuttall, (R) who shares a drink with a friend, is available for those in need to collect from her home in North Andover, Massachusetts, USA.

People who can sew across the United States have been hard at work to help provide masks to essential workers, as the Covid-19 pandemic grows and hospitals have begun running out of protective gear, particularly masks, essential to protecting them from the coronavirus.

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker has asked residents to conform to social distancing, work from home and remain home whenever possible to control the spread of the disease and issued an emergency order requiring all businesses and organizations that do not provide ‘COVID-19 Essential Services’ to close their physical workplaces and facilities to workers, customers and the public as of 24 March at noon until 07 April at noon.
