Photo Story: India holds lights-off vigil in sign of unity

Indian people light earthen lamps and candles during the lockdown which was extended till 14 April in an effort to combat the spread of coronavirus and COVID-19, at Jalot village, some 50 km from Dharamsala, India, 05 April 2020.

Indian prime minister Narendra Modi has urged Indian citizens to give out a symbolic message on the fight against Coronavirus by lighting a candle, diya (earthen lamp) or by flashing a torchlight at 09.00 pm, for nine minutes on 05 April.

India is under a nationwide lockdown since 24 March 2020 to stem the widespread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus which causes the COVID-19 disease.
