Photo Story: Mona Lisa’s renovated room at the Louvre Museum in Paris

Leonardo da Vinci’s painting La Gioconda (Mona Lisa) is displayed at the new renovated room of the Louvre Museum in Paris, France, after two months of work.

The painting was first moved in July this year to the Galerie Médicis after renovations in the Salle des États, started.

A statement from the Louvre explained that the decision to renovate the room was made as a result of a huge increase in the number of visitors to the museum since the “Grand Louvre” project and the Pyramid were completed 30 years ago.

The painting is a portrait of Lisa Gherardini, the wife of Francesco del Giocondo, and is in oil on a white Lombardy poplar panel. It’s believed it has been painted between 1503 and 1506.
