A street vendor wearing gloves arranges hand-decorated Easter eggs in Belgrade, Serbia, 17 April 2020. Orthodox devotees will celebrate Easter on 19 April 2020.
Customarily, eggs are dyed on Good Friday before Easter.
The red egg holds special importance as a symbol of the holiday, signifying the blood of Christ. As a result, the first egg to be dyed should be red. A red egg is often kept throughout the year, possibly near the household icon, to protect the household until it can be replaced with a new red egg the following Easter.
