Photo Story: Protests in Zimbabwe

A man runs away from a member Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) during clashes in Harare during the Democratic Change (MDC) Alliance Peace March. The anti-government march is to protest the cost of living, unemployment, power and fuel shortages among other issues.

The protest was held regardless it was called off by the main opposition group at the last minute, after failing to overturn a police ban.

The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) took the decision after a judge upheld the ban on Friday morning.

The demonstration was called in protest at the government’s handling of the economy, but police said they had evidence it could turn violent.

About five million Zimbabweans are in need of food aid, according to the UN.
