Photo Story: Ramadan in Tunisia during coronavirus pandemic

Tunisian cooks pose for a photo after preparing meals for the underprivileged at the Dar Slah restaurant in the medina of Tunis, Tunisia.

Dar Slah is one of the best-known restaurants in the Tunisian capital. During this COVID-19 pandemic and in this period of Ramadan, the owner of the premises, Sadri Smoali decided to prepare a hundred meals every day for the most underprivileged.

These meals will be distributed to families residing in the medina by the Tunisian Red Crescent. Muslims around the world celebrate the holy month of Ramadan by praying during the night-time and abstaining from eating, drinking, and sexual acts during the period between sunrise and sunset. Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, and it is believed that the revelation of the first verse in Koran was during its last 10 nights.
