Photo Story: Satellite image of the mysterious ‘Marree Man’ geoglyph in South Australia

A handout photo made available by the NASA Earth Observatory of a satellite image showing a giant geoglyph known as Marree Man, or Stuart’s Giant, near the outback town of Marree, in the remote north of South Australia, Australia.

Spanning 3.5 km from top to bottom and made from earthen materials, the geoglyph, named after a nearby town, appears to depict an indigenous Australian man hunting with a boomerang or stick.

Since a pilot first noticed it in 1998, the mysterious work of earthen art has attracted international attention.
