A strong quake that shook the wider region of Thessaly, central Greece, measured 6.0 on the Richter scale, according to a revised estimate by the Geodynamics Institute of National Observatory of Athens. Its epicentre was located 16 kilometres south of the town of Elassona with focal depth of 7.8 kilometres.
A second quake followed a few minutes later, measuring 4.6 Richter, with an epicentre of seven kilometres west-southwest of Elassona. There were no reports of vicitims.
