Photo story: The fire activity in Australia

A handout photo made available by NASA Earth Observatory of a satellite image showing long, thin plumes of smoke from bushfires burning in Australia stretching across the Pacific Ocean, issued 10 January 2020.

The fire clouds have lofted smoke to unusual heights in the atmosphere, NASA reported. The CALIPSO satellite observed smoke soaring between 15 to 19 kilometres on 06 January 2020, high enough to reach the stratosphere.
