A meteorite of the swarm of meteorites Perseida is seen above Salgotarjan, Hungary, early 13 August 2019. The Perseid meteor shower occurs every year in August when the Earth passes through debris and dust of the Swift-Tuttle comet.

The Perseids are a prolific meteor shower associated with the comet Swift–Tuttle. The meteors are called the Perseids because the point from which they appear to hail lies in the constellation Perseus.

The bright Perseids are perhaps the most popular meteor shower of the year, but this year they’ll be washed out by a close-to-full moon during their peak.
