Guests wait for begin of a gala concert for re-opening of the State Opera after reconstruction in Prague, Czech Republic, on Sunday 05 January 2020.
The State Opera re-opened 05 January, exactly 132 years after its first opening, with a gala concert presenting the key moments of the building’s history. The renovation works started in the spring of 2017. State Opera, one of the most beautiful theatre buildings in Europe, has new technologies like touchscreen displays on all of seats and a rebuilt rotating stage.
The building was last renovated in the 1970s. Reconstruction lasted almost three years and cost 1.3 billion CZK (51.26 milion EUR), compared to the original cost increased by 400 million CZK. The historical Prague’s State Opera first opened its doors to the public in 1888 as a German stage.
