Photo Story: Valentine’s Day in India

Young Indian girls enjoy celebrating Valentine’s Day on a lake in Bhopal India.

An unofficial holiday centred around romance, the origins of Valentine’s Day can be traced back to the feast of St. Valentine, which the Catholic Church used to replace the Roman spring festival of Lupercalia.

It has now become a global commercial phenomenon, with couples and suitors exchanging gifts, chocolates or love letters.
