Photo Story: Violent clashes in the streets of Athens

Demonstrators clash with riot policemen in Nea Smyrni, south district of Athens, Greece on Tuesday evening.

The protest was organized as a result of a footage that was shared widely on the internet and appears to show police officers beating up a man in the area of Nea Smyrni, on 07 March 2021.

Police reported at least 5,000 people took part in the rally. Protesters hurled petrol bombs, flares and stones against the police, who responded with tear gas, flash bangs and a water cannon. A police officer was seriosly injured in the head during the clashes by hooded individuals who attacked him.
