The Giewont Mountain in Zakopane, in the Tatra Mountains, southern Poland, on Thursday evening, was lit up in a spectacular light show to commemorate the death of Pope John Paul II.
The dazzling light show commemorated the 15th anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul II. Born Karol Wojtyla in Wadowice, southern Poland, he is probably the most famous Pole of the past century and is still revered by many in the predominantly Catholic nation.

The pontificate of John Paul II lasted 26 years, five months and 16 days (from 1978 to 2005), making him the second-longest-reigning elected pope in the history of the Roman Catholic Church, after Pius IX (1846-78).
