PM Muscat says government will continue to work to stabilise prices

Although earlier this week Enemed announced an increase in fuel prices, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has said that the government continues to work hard to stabilise prices to ensure a better quality of life for Maltese and Gozitans. Muscat was speaking this morning during an over the phone interview which was broadcast on One Radio.

Muscat also spoke about the Alan Kurdi saga, stating that “allowing the German NGO vessel Alan Kurdi to disembark 40 migrants at Malta was “a sign of goodwill” and “common sense”.

Giving an overview of the week’s events, Dr Muscat said that in recent days it was clear that the government does not stop working in summer, pointing to the work being carried out on Malta’s roads.

The Prime Minister also referred to news last week that Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi had lost a libel case appeal he filed against Justice Minister Owen Bonnici.

Dr Muscat said that it was high time Dr Azzopardi took political responsibility for the deal, insisting that Opposition leader Adrian Delia should have also reacted by taking action. This, Dr Muscat said, would serve as proof that Dr Delia “means business”.

“Two courts have now said clearly that Azzopardi has a big political responsibility when it comes to the scandalous act involving the Lowenbrau land,” Muscat said, “It seems that the rule of law applies to everyone but not to him.”
