Police in Cyprus suspect that there are more suitcases containing human remains in the case of a serial killer that has shocked the nation.
Police have so far found one suitcase and are searching for another but near-zero visibility in a lake in Mitsero, a village located in the Nicosia District of Cyprus on Monday set back the search.
The second suitcase is believed to contain the body of one of the seven victims of suspected serial killer Nikos Metaxas.
Police officers, rescuers and divers during a search for possible bodies of victims of a suspected serial killer in man-made lake, also known as ‘red lake’, near the village of Mitsero, Cyprus.
The search began on 20 April for six-year-old Sierra Graze Seucalliuc at Memi lake adjacent to the Xyliatos reservoir. Sierra is the daughter of Mary Rose Tiburcio, 39, whose body was the first to be found in the Mitsero mine shaft earlier in the month. Mother and daughter were reported missing last May.
On Sunday, after the first suitcase was brought up containing the body of an adult woman in an advanced stage of decomposition and a cement block, efforts continued on Monday to retrieve the second suitcase that had been spotted through the use of the robotic camera, while the crews are still searching for the third suitcase.
In the meantime, a five-member team of Scotland Yard experts are expected to assist in the investigations. The British team includes a pathologist, a clinical psychologist, a special counsellor with experience in such crimes, an investigator specialising in serious crime, and an expert in complex cases.
