Prepare for extraordinary scenarios – Vladimir Putin

The novel coronavirus pandemic continues to exert a heavy toll on the Russian Federation with 2,558 cases reported yesterday, the highest daily figure so far. The country’s tally has now gone up to 18,328, with 148 people losing their live. In this situation, President Vladimir Putin warned officials to prepare themselves for “complex and extraordinary scenarios” a result of the spread of the virus.

Speaking during a video conference, Putin said that the situation was “changing practically every day, and unfortunately not for the better” and declared the next few weeks as “decisive”.

“We have a lot of problems, we don’t have anything especially to brag about and we definitely mustn’t relax,” he insisted, and called on officials to“consider all scenarios for how the situation will develop, even the most complex and extraordinary”.

Moscow, the capital city, has seen the lion’s share of cases, which have now exceeded 11,500.

Putin called for international measures to end shortages of protective equipment for healthcare professionals and warned that he may need to deploy the army to ensure restrictions were being observed.
