Refugee who lived in Malta among the victims of Dayton shooting

The Washington Post reports that among the victims of the Dayton, Ohio, mass shooting there is an Eritrean refugee who lived and worked in Malta in order to be able to go start a new life in the United States, away from the violence in his homeland.

The victim was identified as father-of-three Saeed Saleh lived in Malta for around five years before being relocated to North America after gaining refugee status.

Nine people were killed in Dayton, when a gunman opened fire last Sunday.

The Times of Malta reports quotes a former colleague, who worked with him in a Rabat restaurant in 2016, that described how Saleh held down multiple jobs to secure a dream life in the US.

Saleh told friends in Malta that he had been working outside Eritrea when war broke out, leaving him unable to re-enter the country.

Yahya Khamis, a leader in the Dayton Sudanese community, work with immigrants once they come to the city, told the Washington Post, that the 38-year-old Saleh “a very humble man” who was incredibly hard-working.

“He was really a very good guy,” Khamis told The Post. “He loved his family.”
