Controlled explosion by police in the Sri Lankan capital causes panic

Sri Lanka’s defence minister said that a blast that occurred in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo on Wednesday morning  was a controlled explosion by a special police task force.

The explosion cause panic in the vicinity as the country is still reeling from last Sunday’s massacre.

The country’s Deputy Defense Minister Ruwan Wijewardene told a press conference that an explosion in Colombo earlier was a controlled blast on a motorbike near the Savoy hotel.

At a news conference the minister also revealed that there were nine suicide bombers, and eight have been identified.

60 people have been arrested and 32 of those are still in custody – all of which are Sri Lankan.

He added that more arrests are likely to happen over the coming days and suggested that there could be more people out there planning to do more harm.
