Malta: Man dies in Cirkewwa – Updated

Update : A Police statement says that on Sunday, at around 0920hrs, the Police were informed that a person was in distress following a fall into the sea in Ċirkewwa.

District Police went immediately on site and from preliminary investigations they found that a 71-year-old man from Birkirkara was fishing and for some reason fell into the sea.

The man was pulled out of the water and was given first aid by a medical team. Unfortunately, he was certified dead on site.

A Magisterial Inquiry has been appointed into the case, whilst Police investigations are still ongoing.


Earlier:  A man lost his life after finding himself in difficulties in Cirkewwa.

The Times reports “A man who was fishing in Ċirkewwa was found dead out at sea on Sunday morning, the police confirmed.

A spokesman for the force told Times of Malta people who were in the area called to report that a man was “in distress” and by the time he was pulled out of the water, he had died. “

The Malta Independent reports “The man was given first aid by members of the Malta Red Cross, who happened to be nearby. He was later taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance but unfortunately lost his life.”


Earlier reports on One News and Net News say that a rescue operation is underway in Cirkewwa, after a person found itself in difficulties while swimming.
