Rise in infections among Japan’s younger generation

Japan has registered another 390 cases of infection, taking the country’s tally to 7,645, according to data published the Ministry of Health. A state of emergency was declared by the Japanese Government last week, leading to shoppers stocking up on necessities and crowding the country’s grocery stores and shopping arcades.

While more than 1,440 persons have now recovered, the Health Ministry insisted that the virus was affecting people irrespective of their age, with people younger than 40 making up more than half of the total.

Ministry officials called on people, including youngsters, to avoid going out unnecessarily and avoiding crowded spaces.

Neighbouring South Korea continued to register substantial progress, as 27 new cases were reported. This means that for the 13th day running, the country had less than 100 new cases. This improvement was also reported in the city of Daegu, the epicentre of the crisis. South Korea’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention said today that in total, 10,564 people had been infected throughout the country, with 222 people losing there lives. The Centre also said that at least 940 of infections were linked to passengers travelling from abroad.
