Dr Robert Abela will succeed Joseph Muscat as Malta’s next Prime Minister. He obtained 57.9% of the votes.
Speaking for the first time after his election Abela said “”I am humbled. I thank my friend Chris (Fearne) and look forward to working together for the good of the party and country.
“There is only one winner today, the Labour Party. Now we must work hard to unite the country”
As the counting was unfolding at the Labour Party HeadQuarters, the indications were that Dr. Robert Abela is heading towards a victory.
Abela’s support was hovering around 58% (0114h)
92.5% of the 17,500 members eligible to vote cast their ballot. 16,217 casted their vote.
Deputy Leader Chris Cardona congratulated Abela in a post on Facebook.
