Robots to help distribution of medicines in Malta’s state hospital

An army of robots will help distribute medicines to patients at Mater Dei Hospital, Health Minister Chris Fearne said yesterday.

The first of 17 distribution assisting robots, called ‘Mario’, arrived at the State hospital recently and will be used to train doctors and nurses before the eventual roll-out of the new sys- tem across the entire facility.

The project was first announced last year, with Mr Fearne then saying the island’s health system remained among the best in the world because the government did not hesitate to innovate.
