Romania’s EU Affairs Minister resigns

Romania’s EU Affairs Minister Victor Negrescu resigned Saturday in a move that risks disrupting the country’s preparations to take on the Council of the EU’s rotating presidency in January.

Negrescu’s spokesman confirmed the resignation but did not explain why the minister had decided to step down. Negrescu, a former MEP, could not be reached for comment.

Politico reports that on Friday there was a discussion among ministers about the government’s preparations for the EU presidency. Negrescu was a key figure in those preparations.
