Russia and Cambridge Analytica has no influence on Brexit result, Facebook investigation shows

Facebook’s spokesperson, Nick Clegg, says he has found no evidence of a significant attempt by “outside forces” to sway the Brexit referendum. The former Liberal party leader also argued that Cambridge Analytica had little to do with the EU referendum result.

“We have found no evidence of a significant attempt by outside forces” to sway the vote, Nick Clegg said.

According to the deputy prime minister of the first Cameron cabinet — and ardent Remain campaigner — Facebook ran two studies using data it had in the run-up to the EU referendum, using the same methodology used to identify Russia’s involvement in the 2016 U.S. presidential elections. In the case of the referendum, the studies yielded no evidence that Russia had interfered in the British democratic process, successfully.

“I’m afraid the roots to British euroskepticism go very, very deep, and candidly, over the last 40 years, have been much more influenced by traditional media than the new media,” Clegg said.
