Russia kills 29 in ‘horrific attack’ on aid distribution centre in Ukraine
Russian strikes on Ukrainian aid distribution centre kill 29, with 48 missing
Russian air strikes on a school being used to distribute humanitarian aid in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region killed 29 people, with another 48 reported missing by Tuesday morning, local authorities said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said two waves of guided aerial bombs struck the settlement of Kamyshevakha during a weekly food distribution session. He said the second attack targeted the shelter after people had gathered to receive assistance.
At least nine guided bombs hit the village, according to Zaporizhzhia’s acting mayor, Regina Kharchenko.
Overnight into Tuesday, Russian strikes also hit a hospital in Kharkiv, injuring 73 people, local authorities reported.
The attacks come amid renewed US and European diplomatic efforts to secure a peace agreement between Moscow and Kyiv. US envoy Steve Witkoff said a new round of Russian-Ukrainian talks was scheduled for 10 and 11 November in Abu Dhabi.
US negotiators are also due to meet representatives from France, Germany, Britain, the EU and NATO in Brussels this week to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine and economic support for reconstruction.
Zelenskyy accused Russia of continuing its attacks despite Ukrainian proposals for further humanitarian measures.
