Russian drone strikes Estonia power plant

A drone believed to have come from Russian airspace struck a chimney at Estonia’s Auvere power station in Ida-Viru County on Wednesday morning, in what authorities say was not a deliberate attack.

Estonia’s Internal Security Service said “according to the current information, the drone was not aimed at Estonia,” adding that investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances. Officials confirmed no injuries and said damage to the facility was limited, with no impact on the national power grid.

Local authorities have not yet identified whether the unmanned aerial vehicle was Russian or Ukrainian.

The incident comes amid a wave of cross-border drone activity across the Baltic region. In Latvia, a drone from Russian airspace reportedly crashed overnight, while Lithuania has also reported a similar incident in recent days. In both cases, authorities said there were no casualties.

Meanwhile, Moscow said it shot down 389 Ukrainian drones overnight, including near key infrastructure such as the Ust-Luga port in the Leningrad region, a major energy export hub.

Ukraine has acknowledged conducting strikes in the region but has not confirmed responsibility for stray drones entering Baltic airspace.
