Operation Saving Julen – Mining Expected to end today as rescuers are half way through the last part of the digging process

Update: The miners are “almost two meters deep (from 3.8m)” , according to Francisco Delgado Bonilla, president of the Provincial Fire Brigade. “The forecast is that the works end today,” The miners are operating in a depth of 70 m.

The miners, according to the latest report, have excavated a length of one meter of the 3.8 they  have to  drill to reach the missing person,  who fell to a well on January 13.

In addition, to specialized people of the Civil Guard have executed during this dawn a microvoladura in the gallery that is excavated to look for Julen, when encountering with the hardness of the land.

This is the most dangerous part of this rescue operation, involving eight miners displaced from Asturias, who descend to undertake the work in pairs every 40 minutes, carrying their own oxygen, and ten civil guards and eight firefighters.

The members of the team have also expanded the diameter of the cavity, after which they proceed to prop up the space.

The rescue of Julen has mobilized up to now more than 300 people. In addition to the eight miners who will try to make the last stretch to reach the minor, in the operation have collaborated a hundred operators and technicians led by 13 engineers. In addition, 50 Civil Guard agents; about 40 firefighters; 30 professionals of Civil Protection, 112 and Emergency Group of Andalusia; 80 Civil Protection volunteers; as well as a team of 18 psychologistswho are attending at all times to the minor’s family.
