Sesame Street gets real street in New York

A street in New York has been official named ‘Sesame Street’. The street is in the intersection of West 63rd Street and Broadway where the show’s headquarters are located.

It was named by Mayor Bill de Blasio in honour of the show’s 50th anniversary at a ceremony this week. He also dubbed May 1 as “Sesame Street Day.”

The show has been headquartered in New York City since 1969 and has always been based between West 63rd and West 64th Streets.

While an intersection was temporarily renamed 10 years ago, this time it’s for good.
