Each May the city of Hamburg celebrates the world’s greatest port festival. The 830th Hamburg Port Anniversary will take place from 10 May to 12 May 2019.

The Hamburg Port Anniversary dates back to the late 12 th century to the legend of the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. He issued a charter to Hamburg merchants, granting freedom from customs duties for ships sailing the Elbe from Hamburg to the North Sea.
The charter was issued on the 7 th May 1189 which is now known as the founding date of the Port of Hamburg. Nowadays Hamburg is the most important port in Germany, one of the world’s major container ports and a bridge between Europe an Overseas.
