Southgate resigns as England manager

Gareth Southgate has stepped down as England manager.

This announcement comes two days after England’s Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.

The 53-year-old, who led the Three Lions for eight years, departs after overseeing four major tournaments. He described playing for and managing his country as “the honor of my life and meant everything to me.”

Southgate took over the senior team from the U21s following Sam Allardyce’s sudden departure in September 2016 and led England to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup.
