Strong earthquake in the Philippines

An earthquake of a magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck at a depth of 48 km at 10:48 am local time, 20km north of Santa Praxedes, Philippines.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The tremor produced shaking and caused hanging objects to swing.

The quake was also felt at  in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, Sinait and in Ilocos Sur and Sudipen.

Shaking was also slightly felt in the mountain city of Baguio, said Phivolcs.

Philippine officials said the quake may spawn aftershocks, but was not expected to cause major damage to property.
