An earthquake of the intensity of over 5 on the Richter Scale has struck in the lower South Island.
The quake, measured a depth of just 10 km, hit 20km northwest of Milford Sound.
Nearly 7000 people have reported feeling the quake online.
So far there have not been reports on damages or victims.
