The President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani has urged member states to have a unified stance and strategy for Libya.
Tajani said on the sidelines of the EU Summit in Brussels on Thursday that it is not useful to have different European countries intervening in Libya each with a different vision, adding that the EU should provide Libyans with a shared and unified stance in Palermo Conference in Italy next November.
“Such different standpoints for the EU member states will not help resolve the crisis and establish stability in Libya, which is paramount for the EU interests.” Italian news agency Aki reported Tajani as saying.
“We are not that strong when it comes to such very massively important issues.” He added.
He also said that state members should reconsider their positions and start accepting to host migrants, adding that those who would still reject migrants have to pay more money to the bloc to fix the migration and refuge system.
The EU will be part of the Palermo Conference on Libya next November 12-13, among other countries, and stakeholders.
