Manchester Evening News reports that a major police investigation is underway in Moss Side after 10 people were shot early this morning.
Detectives said all 10 were in hospital with what they described as ‘minor to major injuries’. The M.E.N. understands a post-carnival street party was being held at the time.
Armed officers flooded an area around Claremont Road in Moss Side after reports of multiple shots being fired from 2.30am. Police haven’t revealed whether shots were fired at random or if the incident was being treated as a targeted attack.
Detectives were working to establish exactly how many shots were fired and how many offenders were involved in what they called a ‘dangerous attack’. The Caribbean Carnival itself is understood to have passed off peacefully, but police said a large number of people were still in the area in the early hours as a result.

Sky News and BBC report that ten people are in hospital after shots were fired in the Moss Side area of Manchester, police say. “A large number” of both armed and unarmed officers attended Claremont Road at about 2.30am after reports of gunshots. Police say some of those hurt have suffered major injuries in what they called “a dangerous attack”.

Footage reportedly showing the aftermath of the incident was posted on twitter, with the caption: “Shooting at Manchester Moss Side post carnival street party”.
Detective Superintendent Debbie Dooley said: “We currently have a number of people in hospital all being treated for different injuries but thankfully most do not appear to be life-threatening at this time.
