Ukraine’s Embassy in Iran has commented on the versions of the Ukraine International Airlines Boeing 737-800 crash near Tehran airport, saying a terror attack and a missile hit have so far been ruled out.
Preliminary reports point to an engine failure as a result of technical issues, the ministry said in an official statement. “On January 8, 2020, at about 6:00 Tehran time after takeoff from Imam Khomeini Tehran Airport, a Boeing-737 flight PS752 of the Ukrainian International Airlines, bound for Kyiv, crashed,” the report said.
It is also reported that according to UIA, 168 people had purchased tickets for the flight. Diplomats are now verifying data on no-show passengers and identifying Ukrainian citizens among victims.
Nine crew members were all Ukrainian nationals, it has been confirmed.
The nationalities of the 176 people killed in a crash involving a Ukraine International Airlines plane in Iran have been announced by Ukrainian authorities. There were 82 Iranian citizens, 63 Canadians, and 11 Ukrainians on board, as well as citizens from Sweden, Afghanistan, Germany, and the UK, according to Ukraine’s foreign minister.
