The other back to school – When there is a will, there’s a way

She is writing on a notebook like any child who in these days have started going to school.

But instead of going into classroom, or waiting for her free transport, this girl is studying in a rubbish bin.

The images come from Turkey and shows a small Syrian refugee.

The photo has triggered compassion and indignation alike.

The video was filmed in Istanbul and then released on social media.

The Turkish authorities have set themselves in motion and have identified her, Halime Cuma, 11.

She hails from Syria and lives in Turkey for a year together with her parents and six younger brothers in the Arnavutkoy neighborhood, on the European outskirts of Istanbul.

So far, the little girl helps her 35-year-old father to collect the paper from the rubbish bins, then sell it to recycling centers.

As of yesterday, thanks to the intervention of the Turkish Ministry of Education, the girl is officially enrolled in a school, where she will be able to attend thanks to the financial support of the Municipality.
