Boris Johnson and his wife, Marina Wheeler, have announced that they are in the process of a divorce after separating some time ago.

The former foreign secretary and the senior lawyer, both 54, have been married for 25 years. They made the announcement in a joint statement after a story appeared in the Sun on Friday detailing claims that Johnson was unfaithful.

Johnson resigned as foreign secretary in July over his opposition to Theresa May’s Chequers Brexit plan. He has since written a series of articles criticising the government, which have been viewed as attempts to position himself as an alternative prime minister.

Wheeler is a human rights lawyer who became a Queen’s counsel in 2016. Johnson credited her as a key voice in his decision to support Brexit before the referendum

The Sun had the day’s top scoop, reporting about ex-foreign secretary and would-be PM Boris Johnson’s marital troubles. “Bonking Boris booted out,” the paper blasted. The saga is likely to deal a fresh blow to Johnson’s ambitions of becoming Conservative leader, the Sun predicted.

BORIS Johnson has split with his long-suffering wife Marina after she accused him of cheating on her again.

The Sun can reveal the ex-Foreign Secretary and his high-flying lawyer wife, both 54, are now living apart and no longer socialise as a couple.

The Johnsons’ 25-year marriage has been rocked previously by his flings with other women. Boris’ daughter has claimed wife Marina “will never take him back”.

Fashion journalist Lara, 25, is understood to have been overheard exploding with rage at her philandering dad. She is said to have told pals at a party he “is a selfish bastard”.

And she insisted to one friend: “Mum is finished with him. She will never take him back now.”

Sources close to the ex-Foreign Secretary and his high-flying lawyer wife say Marina, 54, booted out Boris over fresh allegations he had been seeing another woman.

The two now live apart and no longer socialise as a couple.

The circumstances of the split are likely to deal a fresh blow to 54-year-old Boris’s ambitions of becoming Conservative leader.

She has thrown him out twice before — first in 2004 over his four-year affair with the writer Petronella Wyatt, and then again in 2010 when he was suspected of having a lovechild with art consultant Helen Macintyre.
