The Year in Photos – The Unknown Faces of 2019

A girl wearing indigenous face paint participates in a vigil in honor of Santo Domingo de Guzman in Managua, Nicaragua, on 09 August 2019.

Devotees say that in 1885, the lumberjack Vicente Aburto found an image inside the hollow of a blackwood tree on a private property southeast of Managua and took it to a church in Managua where a priest said it was an image of Santo Domingo de Guzman, who was a missionary, protector, and defender of slaves who lived from 1170-1221.
