Tirana residents leave their homes after 5.6 magnitude earthquake hit Albania’s capital coast

 

A 5..6 Earthquake was registered in Albania. There were no reports of casualties, but an apartment building in the coastal town of Durres was reported to have been badly damaged.

The earthquake was registered on the 41.37°N longitude and 19.49°E latitude.

The quake struck near Tirana at 2.15pm UTC with a depth of 26km. It is not known if there are any injuries or structural damage. But many people reported they could feel buildings shake.

The United States Geographical Survey (USGS) said that the quake hit in the Adriatic Sea at a depth of 10km. It ranked the earthquake 5.6, although other sources suggested it was 5.8.

This was an aftershock of another 5.3 quake which hit the same area 11 minutes earlier.

One person said the shaking lasted for around 10 seconds, while someone else the shaking was so strong it woke them up.

“Chaos is spreading on the streets and these are a few damages that happened in my home. “I hate living in an apartment right now.” Another person wrote: “There was a big earthquake like 20 mins ago! Shop glasses and cars started moving! This has never happened in Albania before!”
