Total number of countries reporting Co-Vid19 reaches 100

8 new countries/territories/areas (Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Faroe Islands, French Guiana, Maldives, Malta, Martinique, and Republic of Moldova) have reported cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of  countries which has now reported laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID- 19 to 100.

WHO issued guidelines on critical preparedness, readiness and response actions for each transmission scenario for COVID-19. 

Bulgaria reported on Sunday its first four confirmed cases of the coronavirus

Two men from the northern city of Pleven and two women from the central city of Gabrovo tested positive following widespread testing, said Todor Kantardzhiev, head of the National Centre of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases. The government was due to hold an emergency meeting later on Sunday to discuss additional measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Moldova has reported its first confirmed coronavirus case, the Moldovan health ministry said late on Saturday.

The 48-year-old woman was hospitalised on Saturday after she arrived from Italy, the ministry said in a statement. “The person was taken from the airport … with bilateral pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, fever, cough, general weakness,” it said.

Meanwhile a 60-year-old German tourist has died in Egypt, becoming its first fatality from the new coronavirus, the health ministry in Cairo announced on Sunday.

The man was taken to hospital with fever after arriving in Hurghada from Luxor on March 6, and was placed in intensive care but refused to be transferred to a designated isolation hospital, the ministry said.

In the UK the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK is now 273, a rise of 67, the biggest in a 24-hour period.

Iran‘s health ministry on Sunday reported 49 new deaths from the COVID-19 disease, the highest toll within 24 hours since the start of the novel coronavirus outbreak in the country. The outbreak of the new coronavirus that causes COVID-19 in Iran is one of the deadliest outside of China, where the virus originated late last year. It killed 194.

In Lombardia alone, 113 new deaths were reported since yesterday, which makes the situation even more dramatic. The death toll in the region now is 267. Alitalia announced it’s blocking the flights from Malpensa.
