Trudeau sends signal blaming Trump for Ukraine’s plane downing

As groups representing Iranian-Canadians and Jewish-Canadians called on the federal government to get tough on the regime in Tehran, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sent a signal to his base that the person he really blames the shooting down of Ukraine International Flight 752 is Donald Trump.

“When we see rising tensions and conflict and military actions anywhere in the world, it is always innocents who get sideswiped,” Trudeau said in an exclusive interview with Global News.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said the 176 people, including 57 Canadians, on board the Ukrainian aircraft shot down by a missile shortly after it took off from Tehran last week would still be alive if tensions in the region had not escalated.

Trudeau has been careful to avoid blaming US President Donald Trump for the deaths which followed in the wake of the US assassination of Qassem Soleimani, Iran’s top general.

Meanwhile one of Canada’s top business leaders has lashed out at US President Donald Trump over the shooting down of an airliner by Iran last week.

Maple Leaf Foods chief executive Michael McCain said his colleague’s wife and son were among the 57 Canadians who died.

Without explicitly naming Mr Trump, he suggested “a narcissist in Washington” ultimately caused the air tragedy.
