Trump declares US will ‘take over’ Gaza Strip

Donald Trump has declared that the US will “take over” Gaza, envisioning long-term American control after relocating all Palestinians. He suggested transforming the territory into the “Riviera of the Middle East” but did not clarify how the US could assume authority. He pledged to clear unexploded bombs, rebuild infrastructure, and create jobs.

Saudi Arabia rejected any forced displacement of Palestinians and ruled out ties with Israel without a Palestinian state. Hamas condemned Trump’s remarks as “absurd,” while Palestinian officials urged respect for their right to remain in Gaza.

Both Democrats and Republicans criticised the proposal. Senator Chris Murphy said Trump had “lost it,” while former GOP congressman Justin Amash warned it would amount to ethnic cleansing.
