Trump plays down importance of post-Brexit Irish Border

Donald Trump has insisted Brexit poses no threat to the Irish border, saying before talks with Leo Varadkar that the frontier will be “just fine” after Britain’s withdrawal from the EU.

Although the long dispute over border arrangements helped to topple Theresa May’s leadership of the UK, the US president told Ireland’s premier he was confident a solution could still be found. “I don’t think the border is going to be a problem,” he told reporters at Shannon airport in south-western Ireland.
