The Times says that a Criminal Recovery Bureau set up in 2015 has been idle for three years. Justice Minister Owen Bonnici was replying to a question by Opposition MP Claudio Grech who called the slow development “pathetic.” The bureau is considered central to the fight against organised crime.
In another story The Times reports that policed have traced a stolen art collection from a Balzan palazzo to warehouse in Marsa after having identified the thief. The owner of the works worth €300,000 only discovered the missing pieces when prospective property buyers were visiting, since the 80-year-old rarely climbs to the third floor where the collection was kept.
The Malta Independent says that the Planning Authority Board will decide on Thursday about the proposed development in the land owned by the Augustinian Order in Paceville, adjacent to Bay Street. The Church Environment Commission considered the development “excessive” but the Order said that the investment would help it in its social and religious mission.
The Malta Independent asks dog trainer and behaviourist Robert Spiteri about the ban on pit bulls and other breeds in Malta, which the paper says is not respected. Spiteri, from Malta Dog Training Services believes that it’s not genetics that make a dog dangerous, but the way they are trained.
L-Orizzont speaks to sociologist Godfrey Baldacchino about the reported increase in HIV cases in Malta. The academic warned against laying the blame on foreigners for new challenges facing the country.
In-Nazzjon covers an urgent session in parliament to discuss the findings in the NAO report, published last week. Opposition Leader Adrian Delia said that the Auditor’s General report means that the country has been short-changed by €200 million in the Electrogas deal.
L-Orizzont carries an interview with Lynn Aquilina, who suffers from cerebral palsy, to mark disability awareness day on Monday. Aquilina says that “disability is only one part of my life, not all of it.”
