Tusk Vows to Down All Hostile Drones as Poland Bolsters Defence Posture

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has declared that any hostile drone violating Poland’s airspace will be shot down, as Warsaw intensifies investment in its military capabilities amid rising tensions on NATO’s eastern frontier.

In a video posted on X on Monday, Tusk stood before the wreckage of Russian drones that crashed on Polish territory in early September. “What you see behind me are the remains of Russian drones that came down on Polish soil on the night of September 9 to 10,” he said. “This is how every hostile drone, every Russian drone that enters Polish airspace will end.”

Tusk, speaking from a facility operated by the Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW), underscored his government’s commitment to strengthening the armed forces and national security infrastructure. “That’s why we are investing billions in a modern army and modern services to secure our skies and our land,” he added.

His remarks come as Poland ramps up defence spending following several airspace breaches linked to Russia’s war in Ukraine. During the September incident, around 20 drones reportedly entered Polish airspace as Russia launched strikes on western Ukraine. Polish and NATO radar systems tracked multiple objects, and those deemed a threat were intercepted and destroyed, officials said. The military prosecutor’s office in Lublin has opened an investigation into the episode.

Warsaw has also thrown its support behind an EU initiative to establish a multi-billion-euro “anti-drone wall” along the bloc’s eastern border, spanning frontier areas with Belarus and Ukraine. The project is slated to reach initial operational capability by the end of next year and become fully operational by 2027.

Tusk’s warning reflects Poland’s increasingly assertive defence posture as it positions itself as a front-line state in NATO’s deterrence strategy against potential Russian aggression.
