Two dead, nine injured in Memorial Day shooting in Philadelphia, police say

Two people have died and nine others were injured in a mass shooting on Memorial Day in Philadelphia, authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred on Monday evening—the final day of the extended Memorial Day weekend—when gunfire broke out at around 10:27 p.m. on Lemon Hill Drive near Poplar Drive in Fairmount Park, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.

Two victims—an unnamed adult man and woman—were killed, while at least nine others were injured, including three teenagers aged between 15 and 17, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel stated.

Bethel said multiple rounds were fired, and investigators are working to establish whether several different firearms were used.

No arrests have been made, and no weapons have yet been recovered, Bethel confirmed.

Fairmount Park had been busy throughout the day, with families and community members gathering for Memorial Day cookouts and barbecues, according to Philadelphia’s ABC affiliate, WPVI.
