The British government will publish confidential documents linked to Prince Andrew’s tenure as trade envoy following mounting parliamentary pressure.
Britihs MPs on Tuesday approved a motion demanding the release of the files after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested over allegations that he shared sensitive government reports with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The government of Keir Starmer backed the motion, ensuring its passage.
During a heated Commons debate, MPs called for greater accountability, accusing Andrew of placing personal ties above public duty. Trade Minister Chris Bryant said publishing the documents was “the least we owe the victims” of Epstein’s abuse.
Andrew, who was stripped of his royal titles last year, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and later released on bail. King Charles III said the “law must take its course”.
The government said some documents may be withheld temporarily pending the outcome of the police investigation.
