UK High Court rejects legal challenge to Boris Johnson parliament shutdown

High Court judges have rejected a legal challenge against the PM’s suspension of parliament, but they have allowed it to go to the Supreme Court for an appeal.

This will be heard on 17 September.

Lord Pannick representing Gina Miller – the anti-Brexit campaigner who brought the challenge – told the court she was “disappointed” with the result, but that the case will now proceed to the Supreme Court.

The judges have given permission for their decision to be appealed at the Supreme Court.

The case was brought by businesswoman Gina Miller, who argued the move was “an unlawful abuse of power”.

Rejecting Ms Miller’s case, Lord Justice Burnett said she could immediately appeal because of the important points of law at stake.
