UK reports another 917 deaths, including 11-year old

The UK has reported another staggering increase in deaths this afternoon. The UK Department of Health registered another 917 deaths, among them an 11 year old. 9,875 persons have now lost their lives due to coronavirus infection, marking Easter Sunday as the day where the toll will likely pass the glum 10,000 threshold.

This figure was however slightly less than the 980 announced the day before.

Once again, the majority of cases was reported in England, which had 823 new deaths, aged between 11 and 102. Only 33 of these deaths had no underlying health conditions.

Despite this increase, US Institute which earlier this week had predicted at least 66,000 deaths in the Kingdom, has revised its forecasts downwards as a result of new data available to it. It is now estimating around 37,000 deaths, explaining that this figure could range anywhere between 26,000 and 62,500. This revised figure would still make the UK the country with most victims in Europe.
